Terms, privacy, and the limits of an AI teacher.

What you can expect from Kruu Jai, and what it expects from you. Written plainly on purpose; nothing here is hidden in a longer version.
What this is
Kruu Jai teaches Thai from its own course, adapted for an AI teacher. The teacher is an AI voice, not a person, and it says so on every screen it appears on.
The course material is licensed, not yours. You may use it to learn. You may not republish it, resell it, or use it to train another model.
Your account
One account, one learner. You sign in with your email address and a code we send you; there is no password to lose.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has it.
Age and language
The Speak Thai course itself contains no adult material.
The teacher will, if you ask her to, explain informal and rude language — slang, and swearing — because they are part of how Thai is really spoken and you will hear them. She keeps it to one such word a lesson, never raises it herself, and marks it as language she has not had checked by a native speaker.
There is no minimum age. This is a language course, and a young person learning Thai should not have to lie about their birthday to take one.
Parental guidance is advised, for the reason above: ask her about slang and she will teach it, the way a tutor asked the same question would. A parent who would rather that did not happen should take the lessons alongside their child, which is the better lesson anyway.
Data-protection law is a separate question from content, and in some countries a parent or guardian must agree on a young person’s behalf before their voice may be processed. Where that applies, that agreement is required, whatever this page says about age.
Paying
Everything is paid in credits. A plan adds credits each month, and you can buy more in packs; both go into one balance. Lessons spend credits by the minute, and you are always asked before credits are spent. Credits last 12 months from the day they are added, and the oldest are spent first.
Payments are taken by Stripe, on its own secure page: your card details never reach Kruu Jai. During the pilot, paid plans and packs are sold to customers in Thailand.
Plans renew monthly until you cancel. Refunds are covered in "Refunds and cancellation" below.
Stopping
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. It removes your learning record, including transcripts.
We can close an account that is being used to attack the service or to redistribute the course.
Who offers this
Kruu Jai is a private test, offered to a small invited group while it is being built.
It is offered by a sole trader in Thailand, trading as Kruu Jai. Payments are taken on its behalf by Stripe. For anything at all, write to hello@kruujai.com.
Privacy
What is collected, where it goes, how long it stays and how to be rid of it. The short version is on the screen you saw before your first voice lesson; this is the same thing at more length.
Your voice
During a voice lesson your microphone is streamed to OpenAI, who run the voice model. That is what lets the teacher hear your tones.
No audio is recorded or stored by Kruu Jai. There is no recorder in the app and no audio file is ever written.
The connection is made by the app directly with OpenAI using a secret that lasts one session. The account key never reaches your device.
What is written down
What was said, as text, so the teacher can remember your lesson. This is kept only for lessons set to keep a transcript; otherwise the lesson keeps what you practised without the sentences.
Your profile: the name you chose, your polite ending, how much Thai script you read, and what you want Thai for.
Your progress: which words you have met, how they went, and what is due for review.
What lessons cost, so the service can be billed and budgeted.
How long it stays
Until you delete it. Nothing ages out on a timer, and that is deliberate rather than lazy: the record is how the teacher knows you. It holds what you have practised, what you struggled with, what you asked for and where you stopped. Delete it and she meets you as a stranger — which is exactly what you should be able to ask for, and is one button in Settings.
Your record is used to teach you. It is never pooled with anybody else’s, never used to train a model, and never read by another learner: every question the app asks of it is asked about one person.
Operational logs — which lesson moved to which section, what a call cost — are kept for 30 days and then go. They exist to fix faults, not to teach.
Backups follow the same rule as the record they came from: a deleted account’s backups age out rather than outliving it.
Who else sees it, and where it is kept
Your record is kept in Singapore, on Google Cloud. Learners in this first group are in Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia, so for most people their record sits in a country other than their own. It is named here because you are entitled to know which one.
Four companies handle any of it, each doing one job on our behalf: OpenAI, for the voice and the teaching model; Google Cloud, which stores the record; Resend, which delivers the sign-in code to your email address and is given nothing else; and Stripe, which takes payments if you buy a plan or credits. Stripe holds your card and billing details; Kruu Jai never sees them, and keeps only what was bought, when, and for how much.
Nobody else. Your lessons are not sold, not shared, and not used to train anything.
Getting it back, or getting rid of it
Settings → Account gives you your whole record as a file, and deletes it on request.
A deletion removes the learning record, the transcripts, the wallet history and the profile. A record of any payment you made (what was bought, when and for how much, never card details) is kept for the business’s accounts, as the law requires.
What the teacher can and cannot do
An AI teacher is useful and it is not a person. These are the limits, stated rather than discovered.
Pronunciation
The teacher can hear your tones and comment on them. That comment is coaching, not assessment: it can be wrong, and it never marks a word as mastered.
Mastery in your record comes from deterministic exercises with known answers, never from the teacher’s ear.
The course, and everything beyond it
The teaching comes from the Speak Thai books. Where the books contradict themselves, the contradiction is recorded and a correction is only made when the book’s own vocabulary settles it.
She builds new sentences out of words the course has taught you — that is practice, and it is how a lesson goes beyond reciting the page.
Ask her something the course does not cover and she will usually answer, because a question you actually have is worth more than a tidy boundary. She tells you when she does: anything outside the books is marked as unchecked, is not from the course, and never counts towards what your record says you have learned. It has not been read by a native speaker, and until it has, treat it as a knowledgeable guess rather than as the course.
What this is not
It is not a qualification, an examination, or a substitute for a human teacher when you need one.
Native teachers are a separate service, not yet available.
Refunds and cancellation
The short version: minutes you have used are not refundable, there are no refunds if you change your mind, and you can cancel a plan at any time. The exceptions are below.
Credits you have used
Credits you have used are not refundable. Every minute of a live lesson costs us money to deliver, so minutes already used cannot be refunded.
Unused credits
We do not give refunds if you change your mind. Unused credits are not refunded or exchanged for cash.
Credits last 12 months from the day they are added to your account, and the oldest are used first, so a credit is never lost while newer ones sit unused. Settings shows when your next credits expire. Credits added before 26 September 2026 keep the promise they were given and do not expire, and neither do credits bought through the App Store.
When we will refund or restore credits
Duplicate or wrong charges. If you were charged twice, charged the wrong amount, or charged without your permission, we refund the extra charge in full.
Lessons that fail because of us. If a lesson stops or cannot be used because of a fault on our side, you are not charged for the affected minutes: the credits held for it go back automatically. If you think that did not happen, tell us within 30 days and we will check and put it right.
Mistaken purchase. If you bought a credit pack or a plan by mistake, tell us within 7 days of the payment. If you have not used any lesson minutes since that payment, we refund it in full and remove the credits it added.
If we stop the service. If Kruu Jai closes for good, we refund the unused part of any credits you paid for, pro rata.
Plans
Kruu Jai Lite (฿250 a month) and Full (฿1,000 a month) renew automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Settings → Plan and credits, in one step.
Once you cancel, you are not charged again. The current month is not refunded, but you keep every credit already added to your account, each for 12 months from the day it was added.
Purchases through the App Store
If you paid through Apple, Apple handles refunds under its own rules; ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple refunds a purchase, we remove the credits it added.
Your legal rights
Nothing in this policy limits any right you have under the consumer law that applies to you. Where the law gives you a right to cancel or to a refund, that right applies in addition to this policy.
How to ask
Email hello@kruujai.com from the address on your account, with the date of the charge. We reply within 3 working days, and an approved refund goes back to the card or account you paid with within 15 days.
